How to make an easy ice cream?

How to make an easy cookies and cream or vanilla ice cream?

Without an ice cream maker. How to make an easy ice cream?
Ice cream isn鈥檛 that hard to make! I was surprised at how easy it actually is!

I've made ice cream without an ice cream maker several times!

The first thing you have to do is mix up your base.

Here鈥檚 the recipe for vanilla ice cream!

1 cup milk

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1 1/2 - 2 tsp vanilla extract

After you鈥檝e mixed the ingredients together, put this mixture in the fridge for 1 hour then transfer to the freezer for 30 min.

Beat with an electric mixer. Freeze for 40 min then beat again. Continue freezing for 40 min and then beating - do this cycle 3 times. Then you can allow it to harden up by itself.

If you don't have an ice cream maker - it's important to beat it to allow air into the ice cream mixture to make it soft. The beating also prevents ice crystals from forming!

Just add some crumbled Oreos for Cookies and Cream Ice Cream once the ice cream mixture has become hard.

This is the quick version of ice cream making without an ice cream maker! If you want a more detailed description or a different recipe - you can check out

Basic recipe per person:

2 eggyolks

1 TBsp of sugar

2,5 decilitres (1 cup) of heavy cream

Whip the eggyolks and sugar until it's as light as you can get it. Whip the cream. Fold egg-sugar-mix into whipped cream.

Mix with flavour - f.ex. 1 tsp of vanilla extract per person for vanilla ice cream.

Place in silicone or metal bowl, and place in the freezer. Every 陆 hour scrape the sides, and fold the frozen bits into the unfrozen. The ice cream should be done in about 4 - 5 hours.

Take the ice cream out of the freezer about 15 minutes before serving.

If you want to put chocolate chips or crushed cookies into the ice cream, you have to wait until it's frozen like soft ice - about 2 - 3 hours.

Non-Electric Freezing

You don't want to buy an ice cream maker? Here are a few good ways to make ice cream with ice, rock salt, and no mechanical help.

Still freeze: Prepare an ice cream mixture, place the mixing bowl in the freezer. Take it out a few times during the freezing process and mix with a hand mixer or pulse with a food processor.

The rolling can method: Put your ice cream mixture in a 1-pound coffee can, seal well with top and tape, and place it in the center of a 3-pound coffee can. Layer ice and rock salt in the space between the cans. Seal the large can, place it on its side on the ground or floor, then roll back and forth with your feet for about 10 to 15 minutes. Take the small can out, wipe the rock salt and water off, then stir. Reseal the can and repeat the rock salt, ice, and rolling.

The plastic bag method: Similar to the rolling can method using rock salt and ice, but use a 1-pint well-sealed plastic freezer bag in a 1-gallon sealed plastic bag. Shake until frozen.

Some of the best and richest ice creams are made with eggs. If your recipe calls for uncooked eggs, consider using the equivalent amount of egg-substitute or cook the eggs and milk (to at least 160掳 F) as in some of the recipes below. Though the risk of salmonella in uncooked eggs is relatively small, the illness can be life-threatening to infants, pregnant women, the elderly, and ill or immuno-compromised people.

Heres a recipe and a simplified version of the above

Milk can become ice cream in five minutes by using a bag!

What you'll need:

1 tablespoon sugar

1/2 cup milk or half %26amp; half

1/4 teaspoon vanilla

6 tablespoons rock salt

1 pint-size plastic food storage bag (e.g., Ziploc)

1 gallon-size plastic food storage bag

Ice cubes

How to make it:

Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.

Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.

Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.

Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes.

Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open it carefully. Enjoy!

Tips:

A 1/2 cup milk will make about 1 scoop of ice cream, so double the recipe if you want more. But don't increase the proportions more that that -- a large amount might be too big for kids to pick-up because the ice itself is heavy.
Coffee Can Ice Cream

What you'll need:

2 clean metal cans, both with lids (make one can larger than the second) - we used a baby food jar %26amp; coffee can in 4th grade

Use :

1 cup of very cold milk

1 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1 tbs chocolate syrup

Ice

Salt

How to make it:

Place the ice cream mixture in the smaller coffee can (make sure it's clean) and seal with the lid on tightly.

Place the smaller can in the larger can. Pour the ice and salt around the smaller can making sure it is more or less in the center.

Seal the larger can with its lid tightly and roll it around for about a half hour. This process works great if you have kids. Let them sit on the floor and roll the can between them. When it's done you'll have a nice container to keep the ice cream in!
