Why people advice to eat ice cream if you have sore throat?

I kept getting this advice last winter while I was having sore throat and I tried to eat ice cream. It felt good while eatting but soon after I got worst and developed fever even. I then went back to my remedy: warm water with honey and lemon.

Why this advice when for me it made me worst? Does it work for some people? Why people advice to eat ice cream if you have sore throat?
I've never heard that for just a sore throat; I've only heard of that for someone who's had their tonsils removed. Usually, I use the similar remedy to yours (tea w/honey %26amp; lemon).

But the ice cream is very cold, obviously, and cold helps not only to temporarily relieve pain, but to decrease inflammation. It's also very easy to eat. I'm pretty sure that is why people would eat it after the tonsillectomy, and it may help people who have an irritated throat for the same reasons.

Also, I don't think the ice cream had anything to do with you developing a fever.
