Substitute for flour or heavy cream in soup?

I'm maked chicken corn chowder and I didn't realize I ran out of heavy cream until I had mixed all the ingredients together....is there anything else i can use as a substitute.Substitute for flour or heavy cream in soup?
In a sauce pan: 1 quart milk, 1 stick of margarine or butter, salt and pepper to taste...not much.

In a small bowl add 1/2 cup milk and 4 TBS. corn starch...stir until creamy and no lumps.

Heat the milk mixture in sauce pan until hot...stirring constantly.. stir the cornstarch mixture and slowly add to the hot mixture..... stirring constantly..... it will thicken and become a great sauce for you to add to your chowder... or visa versa.

*** Never taste the sauce and then use the spoon in the pan again..... your saliva will break down the sauce! Always use a new spoon for tasting!!!!!!!Substitute for flour or heavy cream in soup?
You have two options either cornstarch or arrowroot mixed with a little water to make a slurry. Both work well without changing or messing with the flavor of the broth. Mix equal parts of either with water mix well until you get a syrupy consistency then add a little at a time until you get the thickness you desire.
I use instant mashed potatoes.
Cream of chicken soup or milk and cornstarch
milk or buttermilk
USE CORN STARCH
